Sponsored Swim Supporting the campaign “Legs for Lyndon”
Wednesday 11th November 2009
Lyndon Longhorne has been a member of Wear Valley ASC since December 2008 having watched the Paralympics on TV. His dream is to compete in the 2012 Games in London. Lyndon suffered meningitis when only 9 months old as a result he had multiple limbs amputated.
On 24th August the Northern Echo backed the campaign by Brian Myers and Durham County Council to raise £10000
“Legs for Lyndon”. Hathaway Roofing in Bishop Auckland offered to match the £5000 raised by local people and the target was reached in a matter of two weeks, but the campaign is continuing, with plans to buy a Bionic Hand to enable Lyndon to learn to drive when he is old enough.
Wear Valley ASC are holding a sponsored swim evening with members swimming for an hour, running across four hours 4.30-8.30 pm at Woodhouse Close Leisure Centre in Bishop Auckland.
Lyndon is an inspiration not only to all the members of Wear Valley ASC but members of clubs across the Region that he has met whilst competing at able-bodied events.
Lyndon always has a smile on his face and gives 200% into whatever he embarks on.
